1. Bala Vihar Enrollment Confirmations for 2017-2018
Bala Vihar enrollment confirmations for the new Bala Vihar year starting September 10, 2017 have been emailed.
If you had missed filling out re-enrollment form, you will need to re-register your children. Please make sure to register on Aug 26 or Aug. 27 to ensure your Bala Vihar registration is complete.

2. Upakarma – Thread Changing Ceremony at Sivalaya – Mon, Aug 7, 2017
Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya will conduct Upakarma (thread changing ceremony) on Monday, August 7, 2017. Upakarma is an annual ritual during which individuals who have gone through the Upanayanam ritual and wear the sacred thread get a new sacred thread and renew their commitment to the study of the Vedas. Devotees will be provided all the materials required to perform the puja including sacred thread.

3. Summer Jnana Yajna by Swami Swaroopananda – Aug 11-15, 2017
We are happy to announce that this summer Swami Swaroopananda ji will be conducting the Jnana Yajna at Chinmaya Mission Houston. The schedule for the pravacanas will be as below:

4. Swamiji to offer Diksa to our very own Aditi Deshmukh – Sat, Aug 12, 2017
Chinmaya Mission Houston family swells with great joy and inspiration, to have been a part of Aditi Deshmukh’s spiritual journey. Aditi is the daughter of our longtime members Jay and Rohini Deshmukh. Aditi went to CMH Bala Vihar from an early age, and graduated from here. She then went on to complete her undergrad, and after that, listening to her heart’s calling she went on to take the 2 year Vedanta course at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya in Mumbai, India. She recently completed her Masters from Columbia University.
Aditi has now decided to be initiated into Chinmaya Mission’s monastic order of Acaryas. She will be receiving Diksa from Swami Swaroopanandaji, immediately after the morning meditation session on Sat. Aug. 12 from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM.
We invite you all to come witness this important event in the lives of Aditi Deshmukh and her parents.
5. Opportunity to offer Bhiksa to Pujya Swami Swaroopananada during Jnana Yajna
During the Jnana Yajna from August 11 – 15, members will have an opportunity to offer bhiksa to Swami Swaroopanandaji. There will be breakfast, lunch and dinner bhiksas. Interested members are requested to contact Bhartiben Sutaria (bbsutaria@gmail.com or 281-933-0233).
6. Sri Krsna Janmastami – Tue. Aug 15, 2017
Sri Krsna Janmastami will be celebrated at Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. We welcome one and all to come and receive the blessings of Lord Krsna on this auspicious day. After the Puja, please plan to stay back and meditate in the serene environment of our beautiful Saumyakasi Sivalaya.

7. Bala Vihar Teachers’ Training Aug 19-20, 2017
Acarya Smt. Darshana Auntie will conduct Bala Vihar teachers’ training on August 19-20, 2017. The schedule will be as below:

Sunday Aug. 20 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Interested members can sign up for Bala Vihar teachers’ training by responding to a special e-mail that was sent on June 24.
Please note that the deadline for registration is August 10, 2017.
8. New Member Registration for Bala Vihar – Sat-Sun, Aug 26-27

Place: Chinmaya Smrti Hall
- Bala Vihar New Registration will be conducted in Chinmaya Smrti Hall by our Welcome team from 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Detailed information will be provided at the time of registration.
- Registration will be open for all grades for both the sessions on the above two dates.
- No Registrations will be done for Bala Vihar during September 2017.
- Many of our Bala Vihar classes are nearing capacity, if we reach maximum capacity during registration period, we may stop new registrations altogether for those grades in September.
