CMH Summer Schedule

During the month of August, we will continue with the Summer Schedule for Sunday satsangas which is as follows:

           9:00 AM – 10:15 AM       Satsanga for teachers
         10:15 AM – 10:35 AM       Teachers’ meeting
         10:40 AM – 12:30 PM       Adult Satsanga/ Bala Vihar classes

There will be no Bhajana, Slokathon, Orchestra and Language classes during this time.

Chinmaya Vibhooti Project

As you all know, recently Sri Gaurangbhai requested support for Chinmaya Vibhooti – a project undertaken by Pujya Guruji in Kolwan, near Pune in Maharastra, to commemorate the Life and Vision of Pujya Gurudeva Swami Chinmayanandaji.
 
If you have not already made a contribution for this project, you can still do so. Please bring your check with a note “For Vibhooti” on the bottom left of your check. Make the check out to CMH. Please give the check to the contribution desk or to Sri Gaurangbhai.

Gurudeva’s Mahasamadhi Day  –  Monday Aug 3, 2009 7:15 PM

On the occasion of Pujya Gurudeva  Swami Chinmayanandji’s Mahasamadhi Day let us  exalt our spirit as we commemorate the life of Poojya Gurudeva.  We will have Gurudeva’s Pratima Puja and Paduka Puja in the evening on August 3rd.  This will be a very peaceful and uplifting experience and we encourage all our members to seek this opportunity to enrich our souls.  Please be seated by 7:15 PM for this celebration.  For further details on timing and items to bring for the evening please click here.

Thread Changing Ceremony  –  Wednesday Aug 5, 2009

Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya will organize Upakarma (Thread changing) ceremony on August 5th, 2009. Upakarma is an annual ritual during which Brahmins get a new sacred thread and renew their commitment to the study of the Vedas. 
The ceremony will be lead by Sri Ganesaji and will last for one and a half hours. Devotees will be provided all the materials required to perform the puja including sacred thread. Interested individuals should register at Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya.

       Puja time:    6:30 – 8:00 AM (please be seated inside Sivalaya by 6:15 AM)
       What to bring for the puja: Devotees will be provided all the required puja material.

Reading from “The Gandhi Story – Through his own words”   –  Sunday Aug 9, 2009 9:30 AM to 10:40 AM

Sri Mahendrabhai Meghani, a rare Gandhian and relentless Karma Yogi is going to be in Houston next week. It is our privilege to have him at Chinmaya Prabha and address our youth and Alumni and do some reading from the book, “The Gandhi Story – Through his own words”. This is a special event for CMH Youth, and all youth, Alumni and any interested parents are encouraged to attend the reading.

Mahendrabhai is the eldest son of renowned Gujarati writer and poet, Late Sri Zaverchand Meghani. Mahendrabhai first came to the US in 1948 to pursue studies in journalism at the Columbia University. He has devoted last 60 years promoting reading among Gujaratis as well as spreading Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology around the globe.

Sri Krishna Janmastami  –  Thursday Aug 13, 2009

We will be celebrating Janmashtami at Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya in the evening on August 13.  Here’s an opportunity to express your love for Sri  Krsna by volunteering some time as below:

       Sunday, Aug 9  after Class   –  3 to 4 volunteers  –  to package dry fruit prasada ( 1 to 2 hours of seva)
       Thursday, Aug 13 6:00 PM  –  6 to 8 volunteers  –  to help place and light lamps in the Temple Courtyard
