Gita Chanting Competition for Bala Vihar Children Sat. May 04, 2024
Schedule for Gita Chanting Competition
- 8:00 AM to 8:25 AM: Student Check in
- 8:25 AM to 8:35 AM: Students and parents gather in Smrti Hall
- 8:35 AM to 9:00 AM: Arati, Pujya Acharya’s address, Instructions for competition
- 9:00 AM: Competition begins.
Lunch will be served after the last group finishes the competition. We cordially invite you to enjoy the student presentations and join us for a delicious lunch right after.
Pujya Gaurang Uncle will be planting a Peepal tree behind the Sivalaya to mark Pujya Gurudeva’s 108th Janma Jayanti Sun. May 05, 2024
Our Acarya Sri Gaurang Uncle will be planting an Ashvattha tree to mark the 108th Janma Jayanti of Pujya Gurudeva on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The tree will be planted behind the Sivalaya at 11:00 AM. Please plan to attend the tree-planting ceremony.
Per the Rg Veda, the Ashvattha tree, also known as the sacred fig tree, peepal tree, or bodhi tree is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs.
Pujya Gurudeva’s 108th Janmajayanti Celebration Sun. May 05, 2024
We have planned for a grand 108th Janmajayanti celebration of Pujya Gurudeva Swami Chinmayananda. We will have Paduka Puja with the chanting of 108 names of Pujya Gurudeva. The GCC awards will also be given on this day. It promises to be a full and joyous celebration. Please remember to bring your Prarthana Piyush and come in your festive clothes and a big Chinmaya smile.
All Bala Vihar children grades Pre-K to 12th assemble in the Smrti Hall for the celebration.
Annadanam Mahadanam – Food Drive for 108th Janma Jayanti of Pujya Gurudeva Sun. May 05, 2024
Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda had always given back to the community through Annadanam. CMH Student Council has organized a Food Drive for the Houston Food Bank to honor Pujya Gurudeva’s 108th Janma Jayanti and follow his example.
High school volunteers will accept food items on May 5th.
The following are the most needed items: (updated list)
Crackers
Granola Bars
Cereal
Canned beans (no salt added)
Canned vegetables (no salt added)
Canned fruits (in water or juice)
* Non-perishable items only*
For the safety of those we serve, the Houston Food Bank is unable to accept:

Bala Vihar Re-enrollment for 2024-25
Our new Bala Vihar year begins on September 8, 2024. Bala Vihar re-enrollment links for the 2024-2025 academic year were emailed on Saturday, April 27th to the eligible families (must be attending regularly and should have submitted their Gurudaksina pledges). Please verify your individual forms, and make the necessary edits to ensure that the following information is correct:
- Grade the Bala Vihar child will be attending in September 2024
- Session you would like to attend for the year 2024-2025
- Enter proper selection for the extra class option – only one extra class can be selected.
- Please check all the pre-filled information and make changes where required.
Chinmaya Mission Bala Vihar Graduation Ceremony Sat. May 18, 2024
Please mark your calendars for Sat. May 18, 2024. We will have a special program in honor of our graduating class. Pujya Gaurang Uncle will be addressing our graduates on the profound teachings of the Taittiriya Upanisad.

Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) 2024 June 10 – July 19, 2024
The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) uniquely benefits college students and young professionals by providing essential insights into Vedanta. This knowledge cultivates a profound understanding of life’s purpose, fosters mental clarity, and instills resilience—vital attributes for navigating the challenges of college and early careers. The program equips participants to integrate spiritual wisdom into their personal and professional lives, enhancing overall well-being and guiding them toward success with a balanced and purposeful approach.
DATES: June 10 – July 19, 2024 (6 weeks)
ELIGIBILITY: Ages 18 – 28
LOCATION: Chinmaya Mangalam (Barry, Texas)

National Junior CHYK Camp for High School July 01 – July 05, 2024
Mark your calendars for the National Junior CHYK Camp (NJCC) for high school students! This adventurous spiritual retreat will be held at Chinmaya Mangalam in Corsicana, Texas.
The camp’s fun and creative activities and classes will provide a platform for like-minded teens to meet and learn from each other, grow spiritually, build strong friendships, and help better prepare them for the pressure-filled college life of today. Planned activities include innovative workshops on stress management, facing fears, and teamwork, as well as sports and a talent show.
This camp is open to:
High school students who are currently in grades 8 to 12 (graduating between the years 2024 to 2028). This includes 2024 graduating high school seniors.
Retreat Dates: Monday, July 1st to Friday, July 5th, 2024
Venue: Chinmaya Mangalam in Corsicana, TX
Transportation: We are organizing a carpool for our members. Private bus options may be available.

Satsanga Timings:
8:35 AM – 10:15 AM Satsanga I for adults & Bala Vihar grades Pre-KG to 12
10:30 AM – 11:15 AM Language classes, Bhajana & Orchestra, and Adult Chanting
● Adult Chanting and Slokathon classes have been replaced with Gita Chanting classes until April 28th.
11:20 AM – 1:00 PM Satsanga II for adults & Bala Vihar grades Pre-KG to 10
Please give yourself enough time to park and be seated in Smrti Hall/ Sarasvati Nilayam by 8:35 AM (1st Session attendees) and by 11:20 AM (2nd Session attendees).
